What Losing 20 Pounds Really Taught Me

75 days. No shortcuts.
I didn’t start 75 Hard to prove anything to anyone — I started because I needed to prove something to myself.
My weight was trending higher than I wanted, even though I was training, sleeping, and preaching wellness as a coach. I knew I wasn’t eating with intention, wasn’t moving enough, and was letting the pace of life chip away at my consistency.
I needed a reset — structure, discipline, and a little discomfort.
So I started 75 Hard.
Discipline Over Motivation
The physical part of the challenge was tough, but it wasn’t the hardest part.
The real work was mental.
Two workouts a day. A gallon of water. Clean eating. Daily reading. Progress photos.
None of those tasks were overwhelming by themselves — but the daily decision-making was.
It made me realize how often we negotiate with ourselves.
“Should I do it now or later?”
“Maybe I’ll skip it today and double up tomorrow…”
That inner negotiation is where momentum dies.
The structure of 75 Hard eliminated the debate.
Five clear rules. No wiggle room.
And once the decisions were made for me, I realized how much energy I’d been wasting trying to decide instead of do.
Discipline isn’t restriction — it’s freedom from negotiation.
Small Wins Stack, Momentum Compounds
Once I stopped arguing with myself, progress became simple.
I walked more, moved more, and returned to basics.
I didn’t chase extremes; I chose consistency.
My outdoor workouts were mostly walks — faster, weighted, and more intentional as the weeks went on. My wife and I hiked, played pickleball, even shot hoops. It was movement that made us feel alive again.
Nutrition became creative but clean. We found high-protein swaps for the foods we love and started meal-prepping together twice a week.
The results followed.
I lost 20.8 pounds, dropped 4% body fat, and decreased my metabolic age by 3 years.
That last number hit me hardest.
As a 42-year-old dad, I want my daughter to be able to say — and for me to back it up —
“My dad’s stronger than your dad.”
Seeing my body become younger reminded me why this work matters.
The Real Challenge Starts After
the 75 Hard Challenge
The first day after 75 Hard ended, I didn’t take a progress photo.
I didn’t have to.
And that’s when it hit me: the challenge was over, but the real test was beginning.
So I waited 30 days before posting anything. I wanted to see what would happen when the rules disappeared.
Could I sustain it without the external accountability?
Thirty days later, I had.
My weight stayed steady. My habits stayed solid. I learned that when the rules go away, what remains is your identity.
I realized I’m not someone who “does fitness.” I’m someone who lives discipline.
The Birth of the 60-Day Lifestyle Reset
That insight sparked something new.
I wanted to build a bridge between the extremes of a program like 75 Hard and the softer, unstructured “wellness” approaches that don’t deliver results.
People need both — structure and flexibility, quick wins and sustainability.
That’s how the 60-Day Lifestyle Reset was born.
This program blends three dimensions of transformation:
Health: Better energy, better habits, and better longevity.
Aesthetics: Looking good because you feel good.
Performance: Moving like an athlete again, no matter your age.
It’s for busy adults and parents who want to reclaim their energy and confidence — not through punishment, but through progress.
What Success Looks Like Now
Success isn’t about the before-and-after photo.
It’s about what you keep doing when the cameras are off.
These days, I call it 75 Medium.
Not extreme, not lazy — just real life with structure.
I still:
Step on the scale every morning
Drink a gallon of water a day
Move first thing in the morning (15 minutes minimum)
Prep meals each week
Train six days per week
Now, success means maintaining a strong, lean 190 pounds, dropping to 15% body fat, and chasing new benchmarks in strength and performance.
The work didn’t stop when 75 Hard ended — it simply evolved.
If You’re Starting Your Own Journey…
Be real with yourself.
If you’re unhappy with how you look, feel, or perform, ask what one small thing you can do today to change that — and then do it.
Add one win at a time. Stack small habits.
Let consistency build momentum, and let momentum build your life.
“Momentum is greater than motivation.”
That’s the lesson.
Motivation fades. Momentum compounds.
And when you learn to master that, you don’t need a challenge to change — you become the kind of person who never stops growing.
